Columbia Middle School

Columbia Middle School opened its doors in November of 1982, becoming the 7th middle school in the Aurora Public Schools' District. The first 8th grade class designated the mascot as the “Cougar” which barely beat the second entry “Cobras”. The first 8th grade class also designated the official school colors as light blue and black.

Columbia Middle has excelled over the years in academics, and as a “sports” dynasty in such sports as basketball, wrestling, volleyball, track, and swimming. The school has earned over 100 city athletic championships since Cougar athletes began in 1982. Columbia has always held a strong belief in the whole student by providing multiple opportunities for students to get involved in the school.Columbia’s community has a history of terrific parental and community involvement. The school has led the school district in standardized test scores from the first day of classes. Columbia Middle School has been blessed with a fine community, student body, and having a fine educational facility. The next quarter century brings a rededication within the Columbia family of parents, students and staff to provide the strongest foundation for learning and developing the total student.
